Mike Gascoyne at MF1?
Midland F1 paid host to the former Toyota employee Mike Gascoyne. Mike has been on 'Gardening Leave' from the Toyota team since April, and looks like he may now be looking to come back into F1.
Mike Gascoyne obviously knows the people involved in the MF1 project as he left the then Jordan team to join Renault before joining Toyota.
With Midland loosing the Toyota engine deal they currently have to Williams, it looks like Mike may be looking to get his own back on the Japanese manufacturer.
Midland will likely run on the Cosworth V8's next year, unless another manufacturer is open to take on the engine supply (Renault perhaps? Mike did not leave on a bad footing with the French team).
The only issue there is funding. Alex Shnaider has been seen less and less in the F1 circles of late (his last race appearance was his 'home' Canada), but talk of a takeover by a Dutch consortium lead by Lost Boys is still on the rumour mill.
If Mike does move over to the Silverstone based team it would not leave him much time to come up with a 2007 car, although initial design of the car cannot really be started until they know what engine will be in the back of the package.
It would be good to see Mike back on the grid, he did wonders for Renault, and although the Toyota team will not say it, I believe he did a decent job of getting the 06 car on track (the TF106B currently running and performing well is his Toyota legacy).
He is strong minded, decisive, and good at getting teams to gel together. Just what the Midland outfit need.
The only issue is, can they afford him?
