Mercedes to purchase McLaren
If the rumors in the German press are true, then DaimlerChrysler are looking to purchase the remaining 60% of the McLaren team.
This would allow the German car giant to rebrand the team as Mercedes racing.
Why Ron Dennis and Mansour Ojjeh are looking to sell their 30% shares is unknown. Also unknown is if Ron Dennis would maintain control of the F1 team.
What is know is that DaimlerChrysler paid $400 million for the 40% stake 7 years ago, which values the remaining 60% at something over $600 million.
It’s also believed that part of the value behind the McLaren name is the McLaren Mercedes branded road cars, of which the SLR is currently selling well.
