Doornbos moved up

Christian Klien has been relegated to third driver for Red Bull, after it was announced that Robert Doornbos has been moved up to the race seat.

Robert will get to show his talent during the China, Japan and Brazil races.

The Ex Minardi (now Toro Rosso) driver has been testing for the Red Bull team all season, and seems happy to be asked to step up.

“Friday testing and helping the team this year has been great experience, but to get back out on to the race track on Sunday is what it’s all about.

I’ve got to know the guys at Red Bull Racing really well this season, so I’ll be working with them all closely to do the best job I can for the team and myself.”

Klien has been released from his Red Bull contract after refusing a Red Bull backed drive in the Champ Car series in the States next year, this came about due to Mark Webber signing to drive the RB03 in his place.

Christian Horner said: “Further to Christian’s (Klien) recent decision, we have released him to focus on the next, stage of his career.

Having done a solid job for us in the third car this season and having previously completed in eight Grands Prix, Robert is the logical replacement.

He will start preparing for his Red Bull Racing debut at the team’s test in Jerez this week.”

Another new face for the team is Michael Ammermuller, who will test for the team this week at Jerez. This set’s him as a likely succesor to Doornbos, at least for the rest of this season.
