Winter Testing Roundup
It's been a while since I posted, Apologies, it won't happen again, I promise.
The winter testing seems to have been a little split. Some teams have shown promise, and some teams that should have shown promise have not.
The fast teams seem to be McLaren and Ferrari. Both have set good times consistently over the winter testing season.
Then there are two shock surprises. Williams seem to have got their head around the Toyota engine, and at the moment seem to be the number 3 team. So that means that Renault are not number one, two or three. No it seems they are struggling to find the pace in the R27. We know the engine is good, as it is essentially the same one they used last year successfully. The team say that they are working on reliability, however they are not really introducing any new technologies (besides perhaps a step on the 'seamless shift' gearbox). If they are 'hiding' pace however it would not be the first time.
Other strugglers seem to be Red Bull with their very sexy RB3. Yes it's sexy, and very svelte. In fact so svelte that it's reported that the drivers are finding the car uncomfortable to drive, and engineers are finding it difficult to keep the new Renault cool.
Honda seem to have gone for a colour change in the winter testing.
Black seems to be the new white. There is also talk that the team will be racing in green. The team however have not had a stellar testing session so far. There has been reliability issues and no real show of pace. The 'sister' team Super Aguri however has been showing improvement. This is probably down to the fact that they are essentially running last years factory Honda, including the 'seamless shift' system.
Time will tell how fast all these teams are, and whether the Toro Rosso and Super Aguri teams will be allowed to run the cars they are testing (TR are using a copy of the RB3 with a Ferrari V8 in the back).
