European GP
I’m a bit late in posting this, but hey, by now everyone knows what happened.
For those that don’t, here is a brief roundup.
The race started under the warning of rain, Markus Winkelhock was the only one to start on the intermediate tyres, all the rest of the grid started on the dry weather rubber.
Rain came, as predicted, and Winkelhock lead the read by a good margin for a time, however in that time 6 cars came off the road at the first corner (Button, Hamilton, Sutil, Speed, Rosberg and Liuzzi). Kimi Raikkonen attempted to enter the pits, but the car understeered and he missed the pit enterance and had to do another lap in the rain.
The safety car came out, and everyone that had not pitted did so, also Lewis Hamilton stayed in the stranded McLaren, keeping the engine running, as he was considered to be in a dangerous position, was craned back to the track and allowed to rejoin the race, now in last position. The race was then red flagged
The rain slowed, then stopped and the race was restarted behind the pace car, with Hamilton being allowed to unlap himself.
Massa lead the race for most of it, however during the last phase of the grand prix after the rain briefly came down again forcing the cars back into the pits for intermediate tyres, the Ferrari did not have the pace of the McLaren being piloted by Alonso in the drying conditions, and eventually had to settle for second place, after a great overtaking move by the Spaniard.
Team of the day went to Red Bull, with Mark Webber, bringing the Red Bull in for it’s first podium this year in third place, with Red Bull team mate David Coulthard finishing in fifth.
Alex Wurz again showed that the Toyota engine in the Williams is race quick, finishing just behind Webber in fourth.
Raikkonen stopped with hydraulic issues, in the last stages of the race.
Lewis showed composure, starting 10th, he managed to get into the top 5 on the first lap, then the rain left him at the back, and he fought through the field to finish 8th, and took the final point.
So with just two points between the two McLaren drivers, the rest of the season looks set to be a cracker.

I bet Lewis wishes he did score a point
I’m quite suprised he didn’t manage to actually. He came 9th, out of the points.
Wow, cant believe I mucked that up! yes he did finish 9th……. oh well, been a long day
Haha, he was so close to a point though, but Heikki had been a tough guy to pass all day on Sunday! Good sport.
