Renault Trouble
Renault have issues a statement saying that they will not challenge the race fixing allegations that have been brought against them by Nelson Piquete Jnr and that Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds have left the team.
This leaves them without the two most influential people inside Renault, Pat designed or managed all of the championship winning cars of recent, and Flavio has been a staple in the sport since Benetton in 1988.
The team are certainly going to miss these two very influential people inside the team, and it’s well thought that the only reason that Renault have continued in the sport for this long is because of Flavio’s influence. We have no idea what the parent company will now do with the team. If the rumour of Fernando’s departure to Ferrari is true, then the team may well fold.
We hope that does not happen, as Renault have been one of the most adventurous teams of recent years in the championship, and it would be a shame to loose them.
However with the news that Lotus will be rejoining the grid, and the new buyers at BMW-Sauber looking to get approval for a 14th team on the grid, it seems we will have enough cars in the championship next year even if they do leave.

The smart money is on Renault pulling the plug anyway.
With threats of further action from NPS and possible litigation from Massa, Ferrari, Singapore et al, can Renault afford to have their brand dragged through the mud some more? Not likely.

Lewis Hamilton is considered by many to be one of the brightest talents in F1, but his memory could do with some fine tuning.
In an interview ahead of this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, the scene of the sport’s most high-profile crime 12 months’ earlier, Hamilton opined that Nelson Piquet Jr could return to F1 at some stage in the future.
“He’s a good driver and he’s had a great career, so who knows,” Hamilton said.
“For sure, there are opportunities for him in the future and I can only wish him the best,” he added. Opportunities, yes, a race seat, doubtful. He is damaged goods … http://funnypeculiarenglish.wordpress.com/2009/09/19/crashgate-briatore-piquet/
Hamilton added that he could not imagine what Piquet must have been feeling as the details of ‘Crashgate’ emerged.
“I’ve never gone through what he’s going through.” Oh really?
Does Liegate ring any bells Lewis?
