Toyota Out
Akio Toyoda : "Based on the current economic environment, we realise we have no choice but to withdraw. This has been a very painful decision. I offer my deepest apologies to Toyota’s many fans for not being able to achieve the results we had targeted."
Seems that Toyota are not going into the next season of Formula 1. That will Leave F1 with just 3 Manufacturer’s in the sport next year, Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari.
This does have a positive side effect, if Toyota do not announce a buyer for the team, it seems that Sauber will be able to take their place on the grid as the 13th team.
The pullout will actually cost Toyota to do as well, as they have signed up to the sport until 2012, so unless they can sell the Cologne based team as a going concern then they will have to pay the expenses to pull out.

That’s a very terrible news… It means that the next year will be very difficult. I read an article (but it is in italian: http://www.omniauto.it/magazine/10097/f1-come-sar-la-prossima-stagione ) where is said that Todt will change rules in 2010… we will see! I just hope the Formula 1 will survive!

It is sad to see so many manufacturers go.
Fingers crossed the new teams next season will provide some much needed excitement.

But let’s see what they will do with the team: it seems they are going to sell car and team to someone. And don’t forget they signed the Concord Agreement in August, so they should race to avoid punishment

A real shame to see Toyota out of the 2010 grand prix season as they were just starting to show some potential.
