European GP

alonso2-lg I’m a bit late in posting this, but hey, by now everyone knows what happened.

For those that don’t, here is a brief roundup.

The race started under the warning of rain, Markus Winkelhock was the only one to start on the intermediate tyres, all the rest of the grid started on the dry weather rubber.

start1-lg Rain came, as predicted, and Winkelhock lead the read by a good margin for a time, however in that time 6 cars came off the road at the first corner (Button, Hamilton, Sutil, Speed, Rosberg and Liuzzi). Kimi Raikkonen attempted to enter the pits, but the car understeered and he missed the pit enterance and had to do another lap in the rain.

hamilton2-lg The safety car came out, and everyone that had not pitted did so, also Lewis Hamilton stayed in the stranded McLaren, keeping the engine running, as he was considered to be in a dangerous position, was craned back to the track and allowed to rejoin the race, now in last position. The race was then red flagged

Free Practice

The times from Nurburgring are in, and as I suggested the McLaren and Ferrari’s are the quick boys.

Other notable results are Ralf Schumacher and Jenson Button, both who look quicker than they have been, lets hope all the press about Toyota booting Ralf has had a positive effect on his pace, and it stays that way.

In other news, Honda have announced that they are not changing their driver lineup next year, so Button and Barrichello are staying at the team.

European GP Weekend

Europeangprix-nur This weekend sees the teams hit Nürburgring for the European GP.

Lets recap all that has happened in the last couple of weeks, and what the results should show over the weekend.

Obviously the news has been focusing on the leaked data scandal between Ferrari and McLaren. McLaren are stating that the team have not seen any of the data, and have no parts or designs from the Ferrari on the car. The FIA hearing takes place next week, so we should know what the actual facts are then, but the story will obviously sit over the race this weekend.

Raikkonen is looking strong after his win at Silverstone, so the Ferrari’s cannot be discounted this race, however the Nürburgring is a different beast to Silverstone, and the McLaren cars have looked better at the medium downforce tracks all season. Plus Nürburgring is a bogey track for the Finn.

The BMW team have lost a fair chunk of there aero team over the last week, this will obviously not hurt them too badly in the short term, but longer term they could struggle.

European GP

Well it seem that a good weekend was had by Ferrari and Bridgestone, as they proved that the Ferrari is certainly a quick car if setup correctly.

Both of the Ferrari's finished on the podium, with Michael scoring the top step and Massa getting the third. Alsono also proved that he is a world champion of note, with a good, mature, controlled drive to second place.

Other surprises, where the pace of Mclaren in the race, the car is certainly getting better, the new engine is obviously an improvement, why they did not put Montoya on a one stop after the distance he covered in the initial stint is beyond me.

Rosberg proved he is a talented driver, coming from the back of the grid and finishing 7th. Rubens also proved that he is starting to get to grips with the Honda finishing 5th. The Honda engine however seemed to fail badly for Button, let's hope that is not sign's of things to come.

Jarno showed that the Toyota can be quick, but not over a race distance currently, let's hop the TF106B solves some of the setup issues they are struggling with.

Spain is next on the calender. Let's hope the race proves to be a good one.
