JarnoHappy A torid day for Lewis Hamilton. After having to start 10 places down on his qualifying position, he then put a move on Sebastien Vettel, but had to cut a chicane to keep the position, and as a result had to take a drive through penalty. That put paid to his race, as he was never going to recover from that, he did finish tenth in the end, which after what he went through was not a bad result.

Kimi looked on to win the race easily, but then before the half distance one of his exhausts failed, this allowed the Brazilian team mate to take the race lead, and complete the race in the first spot. Kimi held on and limped the Ferrari home in second, the huge lead that the Ferrari cars had got initially allowed him to hold onto the second spot. Although it has to be asked why the car was not Orange and Black flagged, as the Exhaust hanging in the breeze was certainly dangerous, as others have said, if it was a McLaren, I’m sure they would have been asked to resolve the issue. When the exhaust did finally break off, it flew extremely high, and could have caused a lot of damage to another car or perhaps killed a driver if it had hit them square. It’s certainly something that a lot of people will be asking the FIA to explain there thinking behind not O&B flagging Kimi.

Canada Result

kimi-lewis-bump Lewis Hamilton ended his race at the first pit stops by running his car into the rear of Kimi’s Ferrari when he did not notice the red light at the pit exit.

However with the two title contenders out the race turned into a good one.

The Race track was quickly repaired before the race, and this caused a fair few issues for some drivers.

The News of the day though is that BMW-Sauber get not only their first win, but a one-two, with Heidfeld finishing second behind the first Polish race winner Robert Kubica.

David Coulthard drove a great race in his Red Bull to get third behind the two BMW’s.

The Toyota of Timo Glock finished in the fourth spot, with Massa and Trulli following in fifth and six.

Barrichello managed to bring the Honda in in the seventh spot and Sebastien Vettel get’s the last point for Toro Rosso.

Full race roundup later.

Turkey a full runthrough

Giancarlo Fisichella (ITA) Force India VJM01, Kazuki Nakajima (JPN) Williams FW30, Turkish F1, Istanbul Park, 9th-11th May, 2008 The Turkish GP again did not disappoint. We had all sorts of drama in the race, both on and off the track.

The Ferrari’s where surprisingly not as far ahead of the McLaren’s as we thought they would be, and the BMW-Sauber’s where miles off the pace. So it seems to have all moved at the top.

The race started with the McLaren cars on the harder tyre compounds and the Ferrari’s running the softer option tyres.

The first corner saw Lewis get the jump on Heikki, and took the second spot, whilst Heikki and Kimi had a small coming together, causing Heikki to pit for a puncture.

Felipe Massa (BRA) Ferrari F2008, Turkish F1, Istanbul Park, 9th-11th May, 2008 At the back of the field Fisichella was far too hot into the first corner, and out braked himself, launching the Force India over the Williams of Nakajima, causing a retirement for both drivers, and a couple of laps under the safety car to clean up the mess.

Malaysia Race Report

Without doubt the Ferrari’s where the cars to beat this time out, however Massa managed to throw his car off the road and into the gravel to end his race. Kimi however kept his head, and finished the race on the top step of the podium.

Lewis had an on/off race, at points showing great pace, but his luck was not good, as he had issues when the tyres were graining, and had a right front wheel stick at his first stop, which culminated in his wheel deflector on that wheel not being fitted properly for the whole of his second stint. He managed to finish in fifth in the end.

It was a good battle in the final stages of the race between Hamilton and Jarno Trulli who finished a deserved fourth in the Toyota, showing that the Japanese team have real pace in the car.

Heikki raced a mature race, moving up the field and finishing third. Kubbica raced well too, to take the second spot, however there was not much footage of him through the race as he was on his own.

Australia a full runthrough

Ron Dennis (GBR) McLaren Team Principal, Australian F1 Grand Prix, Albert Park, Melbourne, 14-16th, March, 2008 After having a few hours nap, then watching the GP again as it was repeated, then napping. I thought it about time to do my full race synopsis.

The race for various reasons has to be one of the best in the resent past, and I have had quite a few comments from ‘non F1′ friends and colleges stating that they enjoyed the race, and as a result would take more interest in the rest of the season. So from that front, I have to say well done FIA at forcing the standard engine unit on the F1 world.

Lewis Hamilton (GBR) McLaren MP4-23 1st, Australian F1 Grand Prix, Albert Park, Melbourne, 14-16th, March, 2008

The race will obviously be remembered for three reasons. First and foremost, it was the race that Lewis dominated, and made look his own. We saw very little of Hamilton during the race footage, and that was because for the most part he had an easy race. He was challenged a little at the start by Robert Kubicca, but besides that drove a mature, well paced race to take the top step of the podium.
